No biting!

Chow Chow's bad habit of mouthing is driving us nuts! He like to bite us when we come out in the room every morning, when we come home, about to go out, changed into new clothes or for no reasons! Maybe he is trying to play with us, get our attention or show his frustrations. We are still trying to figure him out. Whenever he bite us, we will say "NO" sternly and pass him his favourite stuffed rabbit to bite.

Kind forummers have been sharing their tips and advice on training the dog to stop biting. Some great suggestions are:

"Whenever he bites you just say NO to him and give him a toy to bite. When he bites the toy, praise him and reward him. Slowly he will understand that biting people will get scolded but biting toy will get praise and reward. So he will learn that if wanna bite go bite toy better. And also, when training your dog, be sure to be firm on him. You have to let him know you are the alpha and not him. Do not pet or stroke him when he has done a bad behavior. But be quick to reprimand him when bad behavior is displayed. Likewise, if he did something good be quick to praise and he will do it often!" - from Wendi of Dogsforum

"Everytime your dog bites you, you say NO! and you direct the dog to a chew toy, praising the dog while he chews the toy. You must have at least one handy on you whenever the dog is around. This way the dog learns biting people bad, biting toy good. Do this EVERYTIME. Dogs like moving objects so walking feet, fluttering pants legs and hands they LOVE. When he chomps down, DON'T MOVE. Don't try to continue walking or shake him off. That's part of the game for him! Get out that chew toy and kinda "shove" (gently) it between his mouth and whatever he has his mouth on.
